Adding a job to your tracker

A job joins a tracker while you create the scan, not afterwards. Here are the two places to pick the list, and why picking it matters.

Adding a job to a tracker takes no extra time at all, because it happens while you create the scan, and the scan itself comes back in a few seconds.

There is one thing to get right: choose the list before you run the scan, since that is the moment a job is filed onto a tracker.

From a list on the tracker

This is the fastest route. On the list where you want the job, click the plus button, whose tooltip reads add job.

That opens the scan window with the tracker and list already filled in, so the only thing left for you to do is paste the job. When the scan finishes, the job is waiting on that list.

From New Scan

Click New Scan in the sidebar and paste the job as usual. The job step holds two dropdowns, Job Tracker and Tracker List, and both come pre-filled.

Job Tracker selects your first tracker that has at least one list, and Tracker List selects that tracker's first list, so a scan you run without touching either dropdown still lands somewhere you can find it. Change them whenever you want the job to start on a different list.

If either dropdown is disabled, its tooltip tells you what is missing. The tracker dropdown has one, No trackers found. Please create a tracker first., and the list dropdown has three: Please select a tracker first to see available lists., No lists found in the selected tracker. Please create a list first., and No lists available.

Those last two mean the tracker you picked has nothing to file the job into, which happens when its lists have been deleted. Every tracker starts with six lists, whether it was created for you at signup or you made it yourself, so this only comes up on a tracker that has been emptied. Add a list to it first, then come back and run the scan.

Filling the job in from a URL

At the top of the job step is the URL bar, prompting Paste a job URL and we'll fill this in automatically. Give it the link to the posting and it fills in the company, job title, job description, and company logo for you, which saves you copying four fields out of a browser tab.

It is not a separate route onto a tracker. It fills in the same form you would have filled in by hand, so your Job Tracker and Tracker List choices still apply exactly as they would otherwise.

What is required

Only the job description is required, and it needs at least 200 characters. The responsibilities and qualifications sections of a posting clear that on their own, so paste the posting and the length looks after itself.

Company and job title are optional and sit behind Add company and job title. Leave them out and the card shows + Add Job Title and + Add Company Name until you fill them in, which you can do at any time from the job's details.

The job you added during signup

Your very first scan is the one exception to all of this. Signup runs a scan for you without asking where to put it, and that job is placed automatically on WATCHLIST in My First Tracker. Open the tracker from the sidebar and it will be sitting there.

Every scan after that one takes its list from the Tracker List dropdown. A scan created with no list on it still runs and still appears under Job Scans, but it stays off your trackers, which is the reason to give the dropdown a glance before you scan. See Why isn't my job showing up in my tracker?.
