How AI credits work

What AI credits pay for, how many you get each week, when they refresh, and why unused credits do not roll over.

AI credits pay for the AI tools that rewrite your resume, and you get 10 a week on Free or 250 a week on Premium.

The balance resets every week rather than accumulating, so anything you have not spent by your next refresh is gone. That is the part most people get wrong, which is why it comes first: credits are there to be used on the applications you are working on now, not saved for later.

What each tool costs

ToolCost
Bullet Point Generator1 credit
Keyword Boost3 credits
Full Rewrite5 credits
Improve Resume Quality5 credits, Premium only
Auto Optimize Resume, in the classic scan editor5 credits

Free bullet examples in the Smart Report cost nothing at all, because they are served from a shared library rather than written on demand for you.

Every tool shows its cost on its card before you run it, and the AI Tools panel keeps your balance above the cards: You have {n} AI credits left this week.

Unused credits do not roll over

The weekly refresh sets your balance to the full amount for your plan rather than adding to what you had left.

A Premium account sitting on 240 unused credits is set back to 250, not 490, and a Free account on 8 is set to 10, not 18. Saving credits gains you nothing, so spend them on the resumes in front of you.

When your credits refresh

Your credits refresh at midnight in your local time, on the same weekday you created your account. Sign up on a Thursday and Thursday is your refresh day from then on.

Because the day is tied to your own signup date, there is no fixed refresh day shared across accounts, and a friend's balance can come back on a different day from yours.

Who spends AI credits

Every account does, paying subscribers included. Premium buys a much larger weekly allowance, 250 instead of 10, rather than an unlimited one, so the number in the panel is worth a glance on either plan.

Military, Student, and Demo accounts, along with admins, run the AI tools without being charged.

AI credits are not scan credits

These are two separate allowances, and they are spent on different things.

  • AI credits pay for the tools in this collection. 10 a week on Free, 250 a week on Premium, reset weekly.
  • Scan credits pay to run a job scan. Free accounts get 2 a week, and those do roll over, up to a balance of 10. Premium scans are unlimited.

Running out of one has no effect on the other, so an empty AI balance still leaves you free to scan jobs, and an empty scan balance leaves your AI credits where they were. See How many scans do I get?.

What happens when you run out

If your balance is lower than a tool's cost, the run stops before it starts and nothing is charged. Free accounts are shown their upgrade options at that point, and Premium accounts are told the date their credits refresh.

The rest of your plan carries on as normal in the meantime, scans, the resume builder, and exports included.

Do you get credits back if a tool fails

Yes. A run that fails returns your credits automatically, so an optimization that never reached your resume never costs you anything.

The same applies when the AI reads your resume and decides there is nothing worth changing. Your credits go back and you get a "Resume Looks Great!" result instead of an error, because a run that found no improvements did no work worth charging for. See Reviewing AI suggestions for what that looks like in the panel.
