Roles and permissions

What Owner, Super Coach, Coach, and Member can each do on a team, and where a person's role gets chosen.

There are 4 roles: Owner, Super Coach, Coach, and Member. Owner belongs to whoever created the team and is not assignable, while the other 3 are chosen at the moment you send an invitation.

Leaving a team is the same action as removing yourself, which is why every role can do it. The owner is the exception, because the team is tied to the account that created it.

Role changes are the one row worth reading ahead on, so see Where a role is set before you plan around them.

The descriptions in the role picker

These are the exact words shown next to each option when you invite someone.

Super Coach. Super Coaches have the capability to add and delete members, along with the authority to execute all Coach functions.

Coach. Coaches have the capability to exclusively monitor members and their scans, in addition to performing scans on behalf of a member.

Member. Members have the authority to create, read, update, and delete only their individual resources.

Owner

Owner is not a role you assign to anyone. It belongs to whoever created the team, and every team has exactly one.

Only the owner can rename the team, change its logo and description, or delete it. The owner also holds the subscription, which makes them the only person who can pay for, cancel, or resume the coach plan.

Ownership stays with that account, so an owner cannot hand the team over and cannot leave it. If ownership needs to move, email support@skillsyncer.com and we will sort it out.

Super Coach

A Super Coach can do everything a Coach can do and also manages the roster, inviting people, canceling pending invitations, changing roles, and removing members.

What stays out of reach is the team's own identity and its money: Super Coaches cannot edit the team details or touch billing.

Coach

A Coach has read access to the people on the team. That means seeing the member list, opening a member's scans, and running a scan on a member's behalf, which covers the day-to-day work of reviewing someone's progress.

A Coach cannot invite anyone, remove anyone, or change a role, so roster changes go through the owner or a Super Coach.

Member

A Member carries no team permissions and uses SkillSyncer exactly like an individual Premium subscriber, without seeing the roster or anyone else's work.

That makes Member the right role for a client, and it is the default when you open the invite form.

Where a role is set

A role is set on the invitation. Go to Settings, then Team Invites, click Invite Member, type the Email, pick the role, and click Send Invite.

Once someone has joined, their role shows as a colored icon in the Role column on the Team Members page: yellow for Super Coach, green for Coach, and blue for Member. Hover over the icon to read the role name.

Choose the role carefully at this point, since the invitation is where it is decided. To move someone between roles today, remove them and send a fresh invitation carrying the role you want. Removal deletes nothing they own, so the person keeps their resumes and their scan history through the change.

A note on scans run for a member

When a Coach runs a scan for a client, the scan is created in the client's account rather than the coach's, so the client can open it and work from it directly. The details are in Scanning on behalf of a member.
